Auxiliary Task: Font Research

These fonts are a test of what fonts we could be able to use.

From the all the fonts tested, these are the 5 fonts which I decided would be the best to use for our font. I felt these fonts would be the best because all the letters are capitalized and we feel this would be more suited to the genre of our music. It also allows the name of the artist to stand out more. Like the artist of our song, Birdy, we decided that having a singular name would be good for our music product.

After discussing with the rest of my group which fonts would be best to use, I chose two fonts that would most suit our music product. These fonts were chosen because of their simplicity yet they managed to look suited to our media product. The first font (picture 1) is Trajan Pro and the second font (picture 2) is Felix Tilting. I then tested on these fonts over which would be the best way to present this text:

  • Making the text bold - some of the media products I looked at make a part of their font bold in order to make it stand out more. However after testing this on both fonts, I decided that this is not something which we will be using.

  • Colour - some of the research I looked at had a coloured piece of font, and I therefore tested a the font in a few bright colours but I felt that having a coloured font would not be as suitable for our media product as they would not match up     with the image that we are going for. However, the font in        white looks quite suitable for our media product, so  depending on the background of our picture, we may choose to use this colour on the font.
  • On font two, I also tested on making the first letter bigger than the rest of the letters. Whilst this did look quite nice, I decided that it would not be suitable for our media product as it could be quite difficult to read.

  • After looking at the two fonts as a group, we decided that font two (Felix Tilting) would be most suitable for our media product. We decided on this font because we felt that it was quite simplistic, which would suit the genre of our media product and enables it to be easily read.

    1. I am not sure whether this is very 'earth child' since the lines are very hard edged.
